Dirty Deeds Done: The People of the Slough

Dirty Deeds Done: The People of the Slough

October 10, 2018

by Doug “Uncola” Lynn:

slough (slo͞o, slou) also slew (slo͞o)

n.

  1. A depression or hollow, usually filled with deep mud or mire.
  2. also slue A swamp, marsh, bog, or pond, especially as part of a bayou, inlet, or backwater.
  3. A state of deep despair or moral degradation.

2-1. The dead outer skin shed by a reptile or amphibian.

2-2. Medicine A layer or mass of dead tissue separated from surrounding living tissue, as in a wound, sore, or inflammation.

2-3. An outer layer or covering that is shed or removed.

Not Bolshevism, which Stalin liquidated along with all the old Bolsheviks; not Nazism, which perished along with Hitler in his Berlin bunker; not Fascism, which was left hanging upside down, along with Mussolini and his mistress, from a lamp-post—none of these, history will record, was responsible for bringing down the darkness on our civilization, but liberalism.  A solvent rather than a precipitate, a sedative rather than a stimulant, a slough rather than a precipice; blurring the edges of truth, the definition of virtue, the shape of beauty; a cracked bell, a mist, a death wish.

– Muggeridge, Malcom. (1985). “Vintage Muggeridge: Religion and Society”

References to Washington DC and, specifically, the Deep State as “The Swamp” predated U.S. Presidential Candidate Donald Trump. But it was during the 2016 election cycle when that particular designation became indelibly branded into the collective psyche of America’s body politic.  If The Swamp describes the political establishment, the corporatocracy, globalists, elite bankers, unelected bureaucrats or the Military Industrial Complex – then those who buttress The Swamp should be referred to as The Slough.

To clarify, The Slough consists of people who, at most, support The Swamp, and, at the very least, allow its continual expansion.  The People of the Slough, therefore, would consist of useful idiots (i.e. Democrats), the Loony Left, mainstream media and social media propagandists and censors, Marxists, liberals, globalists, elderly hippies, welfare moochers, unicorn chasers, transgendered bathroom rights crusaders, rabid feminists, rainbow dancing socialists, Black Lives Matter racists, Antifa agitators, Never Trumpers, the Millennial snowflake generation, and government drones who subvert the U.S. Constitution for their taxpayer-subsidized paychecks.

Perhaps the main concern regarding The People of the Slough is how they start every debate with the premise of their assumed inherent correctness and moral superiority. Indeed, their arrogance never ceases to amaze.

In a previous essay, this author described the Swamp creatures and The People of the Slough as establishing a new religion founded upon the illusions of narratives.  Yes. The Slough People in particular, embrace their faith using words like: save the earth, justice, fairness, equality and peace.  They’re proud of their self-perceived good intentions, common sense, nuance and compassion.

Yet their feelings deceive them because they embrace moral relativism; not truth.

The value systems of conservative folks are very different than those of The People of the Slough.  This is why words like “liberty” and “equality” hold separate meanings for each. In the example of the former, these concepts are the result of natural law. In the latter, they derive more from Friedrich Nietzsche’s Will to Power”; an idea for which the German philosopher also claimed was demonstrated in Darwinism as the “Will to Survive”.

Although some academics believe survival instinct cannot be conflated with Darwin’s biologically-based “natural selection”, the comparison remains fascinating nevertheless.  From an ideological, or even psychological, perspective – the desire to survive can add entirely new dimensions to the consequences of political power and its inherently fictitious exculpation: “The ends justify the means”.

In other words, when survival is at stake, who has time for the “lesser” conceptions of morality and values?

Could these conceptions perhaps even be spiritual in nature?

The British journalist, and anti-communist, Thomas Malcolm Muggeridge (1903-1990) plumbed such considerations in his 1979 essay entitled “The Great Liberal Death Wish”.  Although there are those who would challenge Muggeridge’s Christian worldview, his perspectives regarding The People of the Slough do have merit:

On a basis of liberal-humanism, there is no creature in the universe greater than man, and the future of the human race rests only with human beings themselves, which leads infallibly to some sort of suicidal situation. It’s to me quite clear that that is so, the evidence is on every hand. The efforts that men make to bring about their own happiness, their own ease of life, their own self-indulgence, will in due course produce the opposite, leading me to the absolutely inescapable conclusion that human beings cannot live and operate in this world without some concept of a being greater than themselves, and of a purpose which transcends their own egotistic or greedy desires.

Once you eliminate the notion of a God, a creator, once you eliminate the notion that the creator has a purpose for us, and that life consists essentially in fulfilling that purpose, then you are bound, as Pascal points out, to induce the megalomania of which we’ve seen so many manifestations in our time – in the crazy dictators, as in the lunacies of people who are rich, or who consider themselves to be important or celebrated in the western world. Alternatively, human beings relapse into mere carnality, into being animals.

… If you envisage men as being only men, you are bound to see human society, not in Christian terms as a family, but as a factory-farm in which the only consideration that matters is the well-being of the livestock and the prosperity or productivity of the enterprise. That’s where you land yourself. And it is in that situation that western man is increasingly finding himself.

– Muggeridge, Malcom. (1979). “The Great Liberal Death Wish”

As opposed to natural law, The People of the Slough are guided by ideology and perhaps, an anima mundi or zeitgeist that doesn’t (necessarily) require supernatural or metaphysical roots; although it’s possible. Regardless, the “spirit” behind the “New Religion” could be as simple as an evolutionary faith of Man becoming “like gods”.

The People of the Slough value the illusions of narratives more than facts. Truth, to them, is simply that which they WISH to be true. In turn, they manufacture their own New Reality.  This is why, in any ideological debate, when they can’t win on principle, they always redirect the discussion to race, or gender, or sexual preference. In so doing, the lofty conceptions of law and due process, for example, become secondary to base considerations such as skin color and genitalia.  This also explains why open borders and the right of women to abort their fetuses are considered of higher importance than even the obvious corruption within the highest offices of government; including, in America, the Federal Bureau (FBI) of Investigation and the Department of Justice (DoJ).

Although, The People of the Slough have actively utilized identity politics, political correctness, race, and gender, as well as other divisions, to gather before the altar of their New Superstition, they had not, until recently, crossed any real lines, per se, in the eyes of the Mushy-Minded Middle. They definitely did so, however, during Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination hearings for the Supreme Court.  In that example, the nation witnessed the self-perceived purveyors of social justice attempt to convict and hang an innocent man.

Of course, all of this illicit insanity would have especially come to surface if Hillary Clinton won the 2016 Presidential Election. Had Trump lost, conservatives would now be in the midst of neo-Orwellian Agenda 21 regulations, gun confiscation, government-mandated politically correct orthodoxies, and suppression of dissent much more fierce than what is currently being demonstrated by the mainstream media and online corporate behemoths.  Yet, now, with Trump in office, the “Will to Power” within The People of the Slough is increasingly being seen by even Never Trumpers, as the once-veiled veneer of civility is torn asunder along with any remaining need for pretense.

Stated another way, The People of the Slough are now in survival mode; and their fear is palpable.

This is why Former U.S. Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton said recently:

You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about.

The People of the Slough profess their tolerance of various races and imaginary gender classifications, but their civility is arbitrary; as was demonstrated in the Kavanaugh affair.  The Slough People opposed Kavanaugh on ideology and for the wrong reason(s). At the same time, they called the judge a lying pervert, even as they desired to hang him in the public square on the basis of false allegations, and for purposes of political expediency.

Evidently, Catholic white men deserve zero justice in the New Faith of The Slough People.  Conservative, and even politically centrist, white men are now excluded to the point they can have their reputations ruined by false allegations, slander, and innuendo.  What happened to Brett Kavanaugh was the very definition of a hate crime.  And this is the essence of The Slough: its disciples are unjust. The foundation of their twisted superstition is not rooted in law or morality but rather a Nietzschean desire for power that now prevents them from practicing the tolerance of which they profess.

Although many believe it was Senator Susan Collin’s (R-Maine) speech that publically vindicated Kavanaugh, thus sealing the support of independent voters and Never-Trump conservatives – President Trump disagreed.  He claimed it was his own mocking of Kavanaugh’s accuser that “leveled the playing field” against The Orwellian Media’s memory-holing of key facts in the case.

The Mainstream Media never reported on Christine Blasey-Ford’s memory gaps. Instead, they only reported on her credibility. Notwithstanding, when Trump revealed the following facts at a campaign rally in Mississippi by mocking Blasey-Ford, the news outlets were then forced to cover the president’s revelatory statements:

How did you get home? I don’t remember. How’d you get there? I don’t remember. Where is the place? I don’t remember,” Trump said, as the audience laughed and cheered. I don’t know. I don’t know. What neighborhood was it? I don’t know. Where’s the house? I don’t know. Upstairs? Downstairs? Where was it — I don’t know. But I had one beer, that’s the only thing I remember.

Examples like this also explain why the writings of George Orwell are a great lens by which to view The People of the Slough.  Through Orwell’s specific designations including “Newspeak” and “The Memory Hole” we can now understand why lies travel the world twice while the truth ties its shoes. The People of the Slough report and swallow muddied narratives via Newspeak (propaganda) while The Memory Hole buries any contravening truth deep in the mud.

Moreover, on October 8, 2018 President Trump boldly stuck his proverbial knife a little deeper into the mire: He declared Justice Brett Kavanaugh innocent and apologized to the judge on behalf of the nation.  In turn, Kavanaugh, at the Supreme Court swearing-in ceremony, graciously said he was willing to let bygones be bygones:

The Senate confirmation process was contentious and emotional. That process is over. My focus now is to be the best Justice I can be. I take this office with gratitude and no bitterness. On the Supreme Court, I will seek to be a force for stability and unity. My goal is to be a great Justice for all Americans and for all of America. I will work very hard to achieve that goal.

Of course, none of this was acceptable to The People of the Slough.  They now want to investigate Kavanaugh for perjury and possible impeachment should the Democrats win the midterm elections next month.

They’ll never stop. They’ll never rest because they believe their very survival is at stake.

The People of the Slough operate on emotions in the whim of moments. They believe conservatives are misled by “fake news” while Special Counsel Robert Mueller leads them, like the Pied Piper, down Russian Conspiracy Road.  As they threaten violence to Senator Susan Collins and claw at the Supreme Court doors like rabid felines, the liberal pundits condone it all in silent consent; just like moderate Muslims after Allah-inspired acts of terror.

Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women; when it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it…

– Hand, Learned (1952), “The Spirit of Liberty”

We’ve entered the final days before the midterm elections and it certainly feels like it did two years ago. The smell of desperation, sweat, blood, mud, and hubris, remains palpable on The People of the Slough.  It will be very interesting to see what happens next.

Appropriately, the elephant is the party symbol of Republicans and elephants are said to have long memories.  Conservative Americans will never forget how Obamacare was rammed down their throats under the cover of lies and along strict party lines, when The Slough Party controlled both the U.S. House and Senate. They also remember Bill Clinton dragging a $20 bill through a trailer park, Obama’s pen and phone, and so much more.

Certainly, The People of the Slough will never demonstrate the type of civility conservatives showed past Democratic Presidents.  Perhaps, the dirty mob hates Trump because he forces them to face their own hypocrisy. They refuse to look inward (or lack the ability), so it’s just easier to blindly hate Trump and his Deplorables, calling them Hitler and Nazis, respectively.  But even, if The People of the Slough do emerge victorious in next month’s elections, be assured Trump will bang them like a drum over the next two years.  It will be hard to look away and it causes one to wonder if Trump’s Presidency was The Swamp’s plan all along to divide the nation further apart.

What has been frustrating for Trump’s supporters is how the president has failed to follow completely through on his victories. For example, as soon as he won the presidency, he let the Clintons off the hook saying they were “good people”.   It will probably go the same way with Senator Dianne Feinstein and her staff, attorney Michael Avenatti, and Kavanaugh’s female accusers, who all likely committed process crimes in their attempt to frame an innocent man and subvert the Supreme Court nomination process; if not the Supreme Court itself.

There needs to be real consequences, and yet these never seem to completely come around, do they?

There are some who say Kavanaugh was a great choice because he was successfully installed on the Supreme Court while simultaneously exposing The People of the Slough in ways that, some claim, was a trap set by Trump.

Or, it’s possible The Swamp now has their man on the highest court of the land as the nation disintegrates. Both objectives would satisfy the globalists and Kavanaugh does value national security above the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It’s also possible The Swamp even desires open-warfare on America’s streets so they can use their high-tech toys to cull the herd, so to speak.

At some point, in the near future – perhaps even before the 2020 elections, The People of the Slough will cross the line of civility again; as they did during Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination process.  Except, next time, it will probably be more serious. In that likely eventuality, hard decisions will then be made by The Conservative Remnant and that means the Mushy-Minded Centrists better choose sides real quick.

Can voting stall the inevitable?  Is it worth another try?

  1. Down in the Missouri “bottoms” there is a piece of former swampland known as Heagy Slough. Heagy is a little railroad town built on the drainage ditch that never quite drained the slough, so the houses are built on extra high foundations.

I mention it only because slough is such an unusual word to see in a title. I do like that you push the literary bounds.

Did I make a comment to you about Unknowable being a contender for the Q and Anon battle?

      1. Hello. I am testing the waters to open a blog and close down a community page on facebook that has been in limbo for too long. If you wonder who the hell I am then let me assure you I’m not sure either since I just shut down Agnes’s Fireside Chats and now my twelve hillbilly friends will be waiting to see what I do next. They really need to get some entertainment.

      2. I have decided to leave the state of Misery and come out of mourning. I am hoping to see MC post an article she’s been researching for quite a while soon… regards abortion and I suppose your review of Unplanned spurred me to get up and get some of that stamina stuff I once had. My hope is to play on this page with my photos and old stuff and not play with my storylines so much on other people’s blogs. LOL.

  2. I remembered there was someone over at the platform blaming boomers for the woes of the world. You are praising conservatives, but you link elderly hippies and aging boomers in with your group of despicables. I think this ought to be addressed. How many people before boomers were standing up telling people about liberalism before my generation. Which generation is carrying the most conservatives at this time. Being a late boomer, where do you think our information came from. Do you have any thoughts on the lack of information available. I have been a staunch Republican before I was able to vote, when ROE passed I was 13, and I love babies. Liberalism started to raise its ugly head at that time. No generations before mine taught me anything about a new world order. Before the internet all those not so little groups were all alone. If you disliked education your group was here, vaccines, over there, MIC, over there, the internet put all this information at the fingertips, and points to common enemies. When you link we boomers, and ex-hippies in with your undesired groups, pray tell did boomers teach you nothing? We boomers are the ones that can tell you what freedom was like in the sixties and seventies. If you weren’t there you will have no clues as to what went missing in the eighties. Everyone read the paper and watched the news back then. Indoctrination of the herd is still alive but and well. You can now see the secrets that were meticulously hidden coming to light. I still cannot grasp how my generation is responsible for your generations woes, and if you look at the lack of information @ sandwich that was handed to my generation, maybe you could reconsider stereotyping me in with Marxist, Commie liberal types who have hated my kind for decades.

    1. Mangled,

You bring up some very valid points. Just as older generations sometimes blame the young – so too, does that often work in reverse. I am Gen X and perhaps I am wrong to conflate “aging boomers” with “elderly hippies”. Although all hippies of the “Me Generation” were boomers, not all boomers were hippies.

The fact remains that boomers came of age during Norman Rockwell’s America, when jobs were plentiful and college was cheap. They enjoyed the spoils only to leave their progeny with a large tab to pay. However, that said, Boomers have also made great contributions and that can’t be denied. Therefore, I’ve removed “aging boomers” from my list in the above piece.

Thanks for reading and for sharing your perspective

  4. When I look back on that era of Rockwell, it was mostly before my time. Women were becoming empowered, no longer was dad’s income good enough, we needed two cars. Factories were starting to hire women, (my ymom was in the paper for being the first woman in the county to get a union card) and latch-key children were created. My sister left for college when I was 8 leaving me in the care of my 14 year old brother. The only way to take my power, and to assure my silence was to make me an accomplice. Was it Jimmy Carter that gave us gas lines double digit unemployment, and cracked open the door of immorality? I guess we all looked back and lusted over the 50s. Think about parents back then. We was worried about the neighbors whuppin our buts if we messed up bad enough. If neighbors became unruly with each other sometimes it ended in a fistfight, people rarely sued each other. As I look back on those times , it seems like voting didn’t make much difference then either. It brings to mind Dukakis. Just a couple months before election, it came out he put voted on a blatantly immoral law in Massachusetts, and it was all over but the crying. The mainstream media did this, looking back, this like wow!! They were doing this back then, only now do we realize how blatant and deliberate it was. It shows how limited hangout was working back then. Do you think anybody mentioned the tri-lateral commission was mentioned more than once back then? Bringing heroin back to the states in caskets got limited hangout coverage. It still seems like it was big Bush in that news coverage.
In conclusion as I age on, I am getting too old and decrepit for this fight, but I can tell you, what used to be hidden is now being thrown in our faces. They laugh because we shoulda been fighting harder against them, because they told us we were stupid if we believed in government, because they were buying it from under us. We exposed them here, so they moved the fight over there, and so on
